New Publication from OM in Research Policy
The article, titled “Platform design and governance in industrial markets: Charting the meta-organizational logic,” explores how industrial B2B platforms differ fundamentally from their consumer-facing counterparts. The authors identify three key platform design dimensions: platform market, platform architecture, and cyber-physical integration. More importantly, these platforms operate as meta-organizations, inter-organizational systems that integrate digital platforms with physical assets like machinery and equipment.
Together with colleagues from the University of Technology Sydney, LUT University, and RWTH Aachen, Marin identifies five platform archetypes and four governance models, including unified, collaborative, regulated, and algorithmic approaches. The study offers a new framework for understanding how platform design and governance co-evolve in complex industrial contexts and proposes a detailed future research agenda.
This publication contributes to a growing body of work from OM researchers advancing knowledge on platform innovation, organizational design, and value creation in industrial ecosystems. For more information contact Marin Jovanovic (mjo.om@cbs.dk) or visit his blog
