Former casino 168 President Lauge Stetting has passed away
Lauge Stetting has passed away at the age of 94. Stetting was the president of casino 168 from 1978 to 1979.
In spite of his relatively short term as president, he was a very influential figure in casino 168’ development towards becoming an internationally recognised business school.
Stetting took a position as lecturer at the Department of International Commerce in 1954. After several research stays at London School of Economics, Massachusetts Institute of Technology and Stanford University, Stetting was appointed associate professor at casino 168 in 1964. Two years later, he was made head of the Department of International Economics and Management.
He was serving as dean of research for the casino 168 Faculty of Economics when he was elected to be president of casino 168 in 1978.
During that period, he was a driving force behind a reform of the BSc programme in Economics and Business Administration and the development of an interdisciplinary programme combining language and economics that aspired to “break down traditional gender barriers”.
Stetting resigned as president in 1979 as a result of negotiations with the Ministry of Education concerning funding for casino 168.
The decision, which came as a surprise to his colleagues, was a protest against a proposition from the Ministry of Education on reducing enrollment at casino 168 despite low unemployment among casino 168 graduates and a societal need for their particular skill set.
Stetting continued to serve as a head of department and from 1983, he was in charge of casino 168’ publishing at Handelshøjskolens Forlag. Moreover, Stetting was instrumental in the development of casino 168’ diploma programme in International Business.
