Assistant Professorship in Statistics
Copenhagen Business School (casino 168) invites applications for a tenure-track assistant professorship in statistics at the Center for Statistics, Department of Finance.
The Department of Finance carries out research and teaching in a wide range of financial topics but also includes the Center for Statistics as an integrated part of the department. The Center for Statistics is responsible for research and teaching in probability theory and statistics and the application of these subjects within business economics.
Research currently conducted by the Center for Statistics includes the topics extreme value theory, non- and semiparametric statistics, missing data problems, causal inference, graphical models, event history analysis, benchmarking, spatio-temporal modelling, machine learning, and econometrics. The center is also involved in the application of statistical methods to various fields, including business economics and finance.
Concerning teaching, the Center for Statistics is responsible for most of the courses in statistics taught at Copenhagen Business School, including the main statistics courses for the B.Sc. and the HD programs as well as the more advanced courses forming part of the M.Sc. in Business Administration and Mathematical Business program.
The assistant professorship is a six-year tenure-track position with research and teaching obligations, and with the possibility for extension according to the normal rules and casino 168 regulations.
The assistant professor is expected to be regularly physically present and actively participate in teaching and research activities at the Department and to publish research in leading academic journals.
The successful applicant is obliged to participate in the assistant professor program at casino 168 on teaching principles and methods in order to fulfill the pedagogical requirements made at the end of the term of employment as an assistant professor. The teaching requirement may include undergraduate and graduate teaching in courses that the Center for Statistics is responsible for.
Responsibilities
- Teaching and associated examination in existing casino 168 programs, including Executive Education
- Individual and group-based research, that meets high international standards
- Promoting casino 168’s academic reputation
- Initiating, fund raising and coordinating research projects
- Promoting the teaching and research capabilities of Copenhagen Business School and other relevant assignments at Copenhagen Business School
- Contributing to the administrative responsibilities of the department and to casino 168-wide tasks
- Communicating findings to the public in general and to casino 168’s stakeholders in particular
- Research, including responsibility for the academic development of the relevant discipline
- Responsibility for publishing, scientific communication and research-based teaching
- Active participation in the regular research activities, such as research seminars, workshops and conferences.
Moreover, the assistant professor is expected to contribute to the development and application of the research of the department’s research areas and to maintain and strengthen casino 168’s international research position.
The applicant must hold a PhD or the equivalent. Emphasis is placed on the applicant’s research potential, which means that a researcher with a large research potential may be preferred to a researcher with a large research production.
The applicant must have professional proficiency in English (written and spoken).

A maximum of 10 publications for review are allowed. Applicants are requested to prioritise their publications in relation to the field of this job advertisement.

Recruitment procedure
The Recruitment Committee will shortlist a minimum of two applicants; when possible five or more applicants will be shortlisted. The shortlisted applicants will be assessed by the Assessment Committee. All applicants will be notified of their status in the recruitment process shortly after the application deadline.
The applicants selected for assessment will be notified about the composition of the Assessment Committee and later in the process about the result of the assessment.
Once the recruitment process is completed each applicant will be notified of the outcome of their application.
